SCA-LOC-125

A concealed stone stairwell revealed after repeated bell resonance activity caused a section of western corridor wall to retract inward exposing an unknown lower passage. The opening appeared within a flood-marked corridor adjacent to maritime preservation sectors and was concealed behind stonework showing extensive mineral accumulation and seawater infiltration. The stairwell descends beyond visible range and exhibits architectural characteristics significantly older than surrounding archive construction. Air emerging from the passage carries persistent traces of seawater cold iron and unidentified deep-atmosphere compounds. An inscription carved beside the entrance states: When the bells open the path the Archivist must descend alone. Only memory may cross the final threshold. Additional text in the Archivist's own handwriting was later identified beneath accumulated residue. The passage currently remains inaccessible beyond an emergency containment gate pending investigation. Preliminary observations suggest the stairwell may connect to lower archive systems associated with bell activity alignment mechanisms or the theorized drowned observatory complex referenced throughout historical journals.

DETAILS
Handling and Restrictions:

Entry prohibited without formal investigation protocol. Containment gate to remain secured until authorized exploration. Descent not permitted during active bell events.

Keeper Notes:

Infrastructure appears directly linked to memory recovery events and deeper archive systems. Preservation priority exceeds exploration priority.

Hidden Western Descent Stairwell

Access Level:
Restricted
Period:
Late Summer
Recovery Location
Western Maritime Corridor Beneath The Navigation Halls.
Condition:

Structurally stable. Lower extent unverified.

Notable Characteristics

Bell-activated exposure event. Self-opening wall section. Extreme depth acoustics. Dual inscription sequence. Strong recognition response observed in Archivist and archive companions.

Clio Observation

Clio displayed recognition rather than fear and maintained continuous observation of the opening while refusing to leave the Archivist's side afterward.

Muninn Observation

Muninn repeatedly monitored the exposed passage and struck the containment gate after closure. Behavior suggests preparation or anticipation rather than alarm.
