UNC-INS-061
A brass navigational instrument recovered from an Arctic expedition crate containing water-damaged journals astronomical diagrams and salt-blackened preservation materials. The compass resembles a conventional maritime navigation device but exhibits behavior incompatible with all known terrestrial or celestial navigation systems. During observation periods the needle may remain stable while outer calibration rings rotate autonomously through changing coordinate sequences and astronomical intervals. Multiple recovered expedition writings reference voyages toward locations described as existing beyond recorded charts and outside conventional navigation. Alignment events occasionally reveal hidden engraved markings concealed beneath corrosion layers including the phrase 'Beyond the Mapped Sea'. Recent observations indicate the instrument may not calculate physical destinations but instead track shifting absences anomalies or locations that no longer exist. Activity intensifies when exposed near the Soul Lantern and several coordinate intervals recur across Ledger Seven and Numbers Station Cipher Reel documentation.

DETAILS
Handling and Restrictions:
Navigational testing prohibited. Maintain isolation from celestial mapping systems. Observe coordinate changes only under controlled conditions. Do not permit prolonged alignment events.

Keeper Notes:
Object demonstrates active behavior and unresolved destination fixation. Rehoming not currently appropriate.
Unknown Coordinate Compass
Access Level:
Restricted
Period:
Age of Exploration
Recovery Location
Recovered from a sealed expedition crate discovered drifting without registration in Arctic waters.
Condition:
Stable with moderate surface wear and inaccessible internal mechanisms.
Notable Characteristics
Autonomous calibration ring movement. Hidden engravings revealed during alignment cycles. Repeating numerical intervals include 3-7-3 patterns. Activity increases near Soul Lantern exposure.
Clio Observation
Refuses proximity during active alignment cycles and remains positioned near room exits whenever the compass is exposed.
Muninn Observation
Remains overhead during examinations. Becomes agitated during ring movement events and repeatedly strikes nearby structures immediately before major alignment changes.

Research Notes:
Coordinate systems remain incompatible with terrestrial maritime and astronomical navigation. Current theory suggests the instrument tracks transitional locations erased locations or structural absences rather than physical destinations. Further investigation required.
